Biography

Taylor Stevens is an award-winning investigative reporter currently working with Fox 13 Utah through Scripps’ national Journalism Journey Initiative, which trains veteran print reporters to bring their skills into broadcast newsrooms.

Before joining the Fox team, she spent two years working as a contract investigative reporter with The Associated Press' Global Investigations Team on a major, national investigation into policing practices that’s expected to publish in March 2024. Her work has been featured in The Salt Lake Tribune, The Arizona Republic, the Utah Investigative Journalism Project and other outlets.

A former senior government reporter at The Salt Lake Tribune, Taylor spent nearly five years covering all levels of government and the way the policies elected officials approved — or rejected — impacted everyday Utahns. As part of her reporting, she has interviewed everyone from people experiencing homelessness to presidential candidates and covered everything from natural disasters to protests turned violent.

Her work in Utah sparked real change in the community, helping people experiencing homelessness get into housing and prompting an investigation into a local mayor's misconduct. Her team reporting on the state’s response to the coronavirus pandemic earned her a first place investigative award for COVID-19 reporting from the Utah Society of Professional Journalists. In 2019, she was honored as the organization’s Best Newspaper Reporter.

Taylor left The Salt Lake Tribune in 2022 to pursue a master’s in investigative journalism from Arizona State University’s Cronkite School of Journalism. While there, she completed coursework focused on data journalism, open source investigations, solutions journalism, immigration reporting and multimedia storytelling, including video, audio and photography.

As part of her coursework, she traveled to Tapachula, Mexico, to report on the immigration crisis there with Cronkite’s Southwest Borderlands Initiative. She also led an investigative reporting effort focused on how Arizona's strict criminal background rules affect people with criminal histories.

After graduating from Arizona State University in August 2022, she moved to València, Spain, where she has been working with The Associated Press’ Global Investigations Team while also focusing on shoring up her Spanish.
